The Visual Learner, Visualiser or Sensory Learner.
One of the primary considerations you have to deal with as a parent considering teaching your own child tennis, is how to match your teaching style to your child’s learning style. Have you ever felt that you are not getting through to your child when you try to instruct them? They just don’t seem to “get it”, no matter how simple you think it is to understand.
I encourage you to take a step back and spend some time studying your child for a time. You see I think it is critical for you as a teacher to understand that your child is unique and that they have their own individual learning style. The skill for you is to match your teaching, delivery or broadcast frequency to their learning style, receptacle or receiver.
Once you think you have an idea of your child’s learning style, you can modify your teaching style accordingly. Some children are better taught with a show me how visual method (Visual Learner), others with a rote lecture style (Visualiser) others still with a work it out for myself method (Sensory) where they love “having a go.” These are my definitions, however you will be best served if you work out your own definition and apply it to your teaching. Your child may need a completely unique method that you invent. Trail and error may be your best method.
The SOVBF method however, will compliment your teaching style and will make learning a lot of fun and rewarding for your child. I also suggest you purchase the Gamma First Set Teaching Kit if your child is under 6.(Click on the picture for more information, price and shipping details) You can set up in your backyard or down at the park.
