Kids Tennis Lessons Can Be Fun
Despite the bad press that tennis gets with its elitist state driven programs, kids tennis lessons can be a bit of fun. The key is to get your child to buy into the fun. That is to participate in all the activities the coach arranges no matter how lame they may think they are. If you can buy in, then they will probably follow, so if you don’t play tennis perhaps its time to have a go. It is great sport for families and can be played anywhere, not just on a tennis court.
This book by Dave Smith is a great place to start learning about tennis, before you set your kids to having lessons.

What Age Should My Child Start Kids Tennis Lessons?
As a parent it would help if you got your child to try tennis as early as possible in their young lives. There are mini rackets, nets and soft balls available that most three year old’s can use. Tennis is one of those games that will help your child understand cooperation as well cross train them for other activities. Hitting a moving ball is not a natural activity, so when a kid can achieve this they are developing their hand eye coordination above real time. This should give them confidence to try other activities as well as give them an understanding of balance, anticipation and concentration.
What About Older Kids Tennis Lessons?
This can be a hard call for many parents. The older a child gets the less they want to be seen to be involved in anything too organised. Tennis lessons can be a chore for a kid that is worried to much about what other kids think. At this point I think it is important to add that if you as a parent are prepared to hit or throw a few balls at your child, you can help them overcome this fear, by giving them some success. I recommend parents read a book by Dave Smith, a teaching professional from Arizona USA before they start to engage their children in tennis lessons. Dave is unique among coaches in that he practices what he preaches.

Where to sign Up For Kids Tennis Lessons?
I suggest your local tennis club or tennis center. Make sure you let the people running the show know what you want for your child and that your child is primed to participate.
